The Olympic Gymnastics Centre in Uzbekistan hosts international competitions: the national flags of the competing countries and TaiShan apparatus are visible in the frame. That changes the lighting requirement completely. A training hall is served by 300 lx, regional competition needs 500 lx, and television is calculated on vertical illuminance along the camera axes.
Two conditions come on top that a shop floor never has. The first is the absence of flicker: slow-motion replay is shot at a high frame rate, and any flicker in the luminaire shows up as banding in the recording. The second is uniformity: a truss shadow falling across the mat gets in the way of both the judge and the gymnast.
The hall is a new build: there was no previous lighting here, so this site has no before-and-after comparison. The lighting was designed for competition and filming from the outset.
The layout was calculated along the trusses rather than above the mat, so the light reaches the apparatus from several directions and the shadow does not fall as a solid band. The main load is carried by around 120 suspended SVO 01 Prom 200W units hung on cables from the steel truss at ≈ 9 m. Around 40 linear SVO 01 Line 100W units cover the perimeter and the warm-up area, where an even background without bright points in the field of view is what matters.
All of it runs on flicker-free drivers. One colour temperature was chosen for the whole hall so the camera does not pick up a difference in tint between the centre and the stands.
Calculated illuminance on the floor is ≈ 500 lx at an installed lighting load of ≈ 28 kW: competition and broadcast level, with no flicker and no solid truss shadow.
