Production workshop
Replacing the old lighting in a workshop: illuminance at the working plane and dust resistance.
The brief
A production hall in Tashkent Region: two bays, a steel truss roof, windows down the long side. By day part of the floor is covered by daylight; in the evening and on the night shift only the artificial lighting works, and it was on that shift that the complaints from the inspectors piled up.
The general lighting target for a shop floor is 300 lx at 0.8 m above the floor, and 500 lx at the working plane on visual inspection stations. A measurement before the work gave around 120 lx in the middle of the bay and less under the truss. Two shop-floor factors come on top: dust that settles on the diffuser and eats the flux within a year, and vibration from the overhead crane that breaks weak terminal connections.
What we did
General lighting was built on around 210 suspended SVO 01 Prom 150W units at a mounting height of ≈ 10 m on a grid of ≈ 9 × 9 m. The luminaires hang from the truss on cables, and IP54 keeps out the shop-floor dust.
At the assembly and inspection stations linear luminaires were added to raise the level to 500 lx locally rather than across the whole hall: light over a bench is cheaper than light over all 6,000 m².
The outcome
Calculated general illuminance is ≈ 320 lx against ≈ 120 lx before the work. The installed load is ≈ 32 kW instead of ≈ 79 kW on the previous luminaires with their control gear. About 47 kW was freed, and for a plant that is not an abstract saving but capacity that can go to a machine without rebuilding the substation.
Figures marked ≈ are estimates and are being confirmed against the handover record. We do not publish the name of the plant: written consent is not in place yet.
